Common Complaints (Not Specific To Any Area)
Chiropractic is widely regarded as a safe, gentle treatment for many of the complaints listed above. Generally, the treatments you have are designed to make you feel or make your body work better. We will do everything possible to ensure your comfort during your visit, and will not perform any treatment that your are not comfortable with.
The most common side-effect of chiropractic adjustments is muscle soreness. While many people feel immediate relief after a chiropractic adjustment, there is sometimes a short period of soreness that may follow treatment. This discomfort is generally mild and short-lived.
The sound you may here during a chiropractic adjustment is not actually a "crack" at all. What you are hearing is actually a release of some gas that was dissolved within the joint fluid. A chiropractic adjustment happens very quickly, and causes a slight change in pressure to occur due to a stretching of your joint's capsule. This change in pressure causes the dissolved gas to become released from the joint fluid, and results in an audible "pop", or "cavitation" occuring.
A common analogy used is the "hissing" or "popping" sound you get when you open a can of soda. This "cavitation" is normal, and is in no way harmful to your body.
Quite simply....No!
A common misconception is that you require a referral to see a chiropractor. In fact, your chiropractor is considered a Primary Healthcare Practitioner (PHP), and as such does not require a referral. It is because your chiropractor is a PHP that after evaluating you, he/she has the ability to diagnose any appropriate condition that falls within their scope of practice, a right that is shared with only six other professions in Canada (including M.D.'s, Dentists, Optometrists, Podiatrists, and Psychologists).
While you do not need a referral to see your chiropractor, it is always beneficial when you are able to keep your entire health care team informed. If you desire, Dr. Dunderdale will be happy to share any appropriate information with another doctor or healthcare professional after obtaining your written consent.
The fee for your visits will depend on what services are being provided. At the N.C.H.C., treatments that include any combination of therapeutic modalities, adjustments, or soft tissue work are billed on a "per visit" basis. However, from time to time certain extra services may be required (such as x-rays, legal reports, orthotic prescription). All fees will be discussed with a patient prior to the service being rendered. Often times, if a patient has insurance coverage, either privately or through your employment, there may be partial or full coverage for chiropractic treatments. You should consult your plan provider to determine if you are covered for chiropractic treatments, and to what extent your coverage applies.
In certain circumstances, patients may be entitled to full coverage with no out-of-pocket expense to them at all. This coverage applies to people injured on the job (through WSIB), through an automobile accident, or Blue Cross members of the RCMP and Veterans of Canada.
There are no surprise costs, no minimum required bookings, and no pre-paid plans. A list of the most typical fees can be seen in the "Services" section of this site. For a complete list of the fee schedule, please contact the office for further information.
